Trainer Guide
Everything you need to know about MusicMuse.
As a trainer on MusicMuse, you manage a roster of students within your organization. You assign pieces, review submissions, give feedback, and message students directly — all from one dashboard.
Your dashboard at a glance
From the top nav, your trainer workspace gives you five sections:
- Dashboard — overview of recent activity, pending submissions, and quick links.
- Students — the full roster of students assigned to your organization.
- Assignments — create and track practice assignments tied to specific pieces.
- Submissions — review work students have submitted, grade it, and send feedback.
- Messages — one-to-one messaging with any student in your roster.
Creating an assignment
Go to Assignments → + New. You'll see a form with these fields:
- Student — pick from your roster. Only students in your organization appear here.
- Due date — defaults to one week out; adjust to suit your studio schedule.
- Practice piece — choose from the catalog, grouped by instrument so you can quickly find a piece that matches the student's primary instrument.
- Title — a short label for the assignment (e.g. “Practice the horn line”).
- Instructions — free-text guidance. This is what the student sees in their assignment view.
The student receives the assignment immediately and can open it from their dashboard.
Reviewing a submission
When a student submits work, it appears in the Submissions section with their note. To review:
- Enter a grade between 0 and 100.
- Write short feedback — what worked, what to focus on next.
- Click Review to mark the submission as reviewed. The student is notified and the grade appears in their progress history.
Submissions you've already reviewed stay visible in the same view, so you can compare across attempts.
Messaging students
The Messages section lets you send a one-line note to any student in your roster. Pick the recipient from the dropdown, type your message, and send. Use this for nudges, quick check-ins, or scheduling notes — longer feedback belongs in submission reviews.
Trainer permissions
Your trainer account is scoped to your organization. You can see students assigned to you, the pieces they've been working on, and their submission history. You cannot:
- See students from other organizations or trainers.
- Modify the legend catalog or piece library — that's curated centrally.
- Change billing or organization settings — those are admin-only.
If you need broader access, contact your organization admin.
Best practices
- Keep assignments concrete. “Play measures 1–16 at 80 BPM, focus on the tempo shift at measure 9” gives a student something to aim for. “Practice the song” doesn't.
- Review promptly. Submissions reviewed within 48 hours keep students engaged; week-old reviews lose the moment.
- Pair feedback with a specific next step. The student should leave a review knowing exactly what to do for the next session.
- Use messages for momentum, not detail. A “Great work on yesterday's piece — can you try the bridge slower today?” nudge is worth more than a paragraph of notes.
